Empowering Voices, Unlocking Potential

In a world filled with myriad ways of communication, every voice, verbal or non-verbal, deserves to be heard. “Listen to My Voice” is a pioneering workshop designed especially for those at the heart of the autism community – the parents and educators of non-vocal children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We believe in empowering and enlightening these unsung heroes to support their children’s journey to effective communication.

Join TAG in making a difference. Amplify the voices of those who communicate differently, ensuring they, too, are valued, understood, and cherished in our society. Let’s raise awareness, champion inclusion, and foster social integration for all together.

Listen to My Voice sessions are approximately 90 minutes long and focus on creating learning opportunities and employing differential reinforcement techniques using Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices.

Listen to My Voice is a two part workshop series that consists of:

Part 1: What is an AAC Device?
This session covers AAC devices, assessing needs and preferences, obtaining funding, creating IEP goals, and is suitable for AAC beginners or those seeking a refresher.

Part 2: Best Practices for AAC Devices
This session explores effective AAC strategies for different settings and situations, including modeling language, providing feedback, and promoting interaction and generalization. It also covers collaboration with professionals and caregivers for consistency and support. Ideal for enhancing AAC skills and confidence.

Key topics of the series are:

    • Introduction to AAC devices: Learn how to seamlessly integrate AAC devices into your child’s daily life.
    • Differential reinforcement: Master strategies to reinforce desired behaviors and actions related to communication development.
    • Advancement of learning progression: Discover core words and personalized programs tailored to your child’s needs.
    • Collaboration between parents and educators: Foster understanding and teamwork to support the goals outlined in the IEP.

Listen to My Voice is funded in part through the SpArc Tank Innovations Grant from The Arc Maryland.

Listen to My Voice aims to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and enhance social integration. Participants will acquire knowledge in IEPs, AAC devices, modeling techniques, and reinforcement strategies. Activities include interactive sessions featuring role-play exercises and comprehensive reference materials. We adapt the program to accommodate participants' needs and advocate for AAC device usage in everyday life. The program welcomes educators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, parents, caregivers, students, and self-advocates interested in utilizing AAC devices.
